Jazmín Riveros is 8 years old and lives in the Eva Perón III neighborhood, on the outskirts of Villa Mercedes, San Luis province. Her house is a modest, one-room, windowless rancho. His dream: "to have my own house. Another one, a real one. Because this one is made of wood and nylon. I want one made of bricks, with concrete and paint.

Her father, Mariano, works in construction and explains, "I am planning to build a room of material, a kitchen. Week by week we buy a bag of concrete, a meter of sand and we build it little by little. But it's hard". Jazmín's mother's name is Vanesa and she works taking care of a 94 year old person. They arrived from Mendoza a year ago looking for a better life.

Jazmín's school is quite far away and one of her parents takes her by motorcycle. "I go in the afternoon because it's cold in the morning", she explains, clarifying that "I liked moving here, I made friends, I have a new school. But I had to leave my bike in Mendoza", she says with a smile.

Her father is proud of her. "She is doing very well at school," he says. "She has some difficulties because she has fallen behind because of the pandemic, it is hard for her to read and do the math, but we help her with her mother. We moved because we didn't have enough money to live on. I only finished elementary school, I couldn't finish high school because I started working when I was little. We want her to have her own space and her own room. I would like her to have the best, to have a good life, to be able to defend herself and be a great person", concludes Mariano.

Jazmín's reality is shared by more than 70 families living in the settlement. Cáritas strives to provide a close accompaniment and from the Chapel of Our Lady of the Good Journey every Saturday more than 200 meals are prepared and distributed. They also assemble 20 bags with food, which each month the volunteers take directly to the families, provide school support organized by the young people of Huellas Franciscanas and assist with clothing more than 90 families in the area.
