Our objectives for the response to the pandemic are clear:

1. To slow and stop transmission, prevent outbreaks and delay the spread of the virus.

2. Provide optimized care to all patients, especially critical patients who do not have access to health care.

3. Minimize the impact of the pandemic on the regular activities of MSF, the health systems and communities we serve. Communicate critical risks and information to all communities and counter misinformation.

4. Provide good palliative care services for the most affected patients in a resource-constrained context.

Independent funding is more essential than ever to enable us to respond to this pandemic.

Description: Our response to the COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly evolving and is based on our 50 years of experience in managing epidemics and outbreaks of Ebola, measles, meningitis and others. The launch of new programs and specific interventions for COVID-19 allows us to continue providing vital care to extremely vulnerable communities around the world, living with limited access to medical care, in precarious or overcrowded conditions such as refugee camps in Greece or Bangladesh; in conflict areas such as Yemen, South Sudan or Syria.

In existing project locations, activities include managing patient care and triage; providing advice on managing large-scale outbreaks; implementing or advising on infection, prevention and control in other health structures; health promotion and other prevention activities among vulnerable populations; direct patient care, Intensive Care Unit (ICU); management and palliative care; building temporary hospitals to treat patients with VOC-19, expanding the capacity of existing hospitals and establishing isolation wards; and more as needed.

Target population: all persons who are victims of the VOC-19 pandemic.

Location: our response in each project will depend on the nature of the outbreak in each area, but also on our available resources and implementation capacity. However, countries with lesser health response capacity are a priority when deploying a mission.
