Doctors Without Borders

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization that works in the world's most urgent crises with the aim of saving lives and alleviating suffering.

MISSION: Doctors Without Borders (DWB) is an international humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance to populations affected by natural or man-made disasters, armed conflicts, epidemics, endemic and pandemic diseases, forgotten illnesses, and individuals excluded from healthcare; without any discrimination based on race, religion, or political ideology.

Currently, MSF operates more than 500 projects in medical and humanitarian action in over 70 countries. The independence of action in the most complex crisis contexts is ensured thanks to the support of over 7 million partners, donors, and collaborators worldwide, constituting its primary source of funding.

Each year, over 67,500 workers collaborate with MSF to provide free and quality medical care to those who need it most, wherever they are. In recognition of its humanitarian efforts, MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.

PROGRAMS:

"MSF Emergency Fund"

Objective: The Emergency Fund (FDE) acts as a reserve of human, economic and logistic resources that allows the organization to respond within 72 hours of the declaration of an emergency identified by MSF. For this, the organization has epidemiological, logistic and professional expertise capabilities specially prepared to send the required equipment to the affected area through the Emergency Unit, whose operational capacity responds simultaneously on the development of regular (annual / semi-annual) MSF projects.

Description: The Emergency Fund is an allocation reserved in the general budget of the organization to cover the expenses of those unforeseeable situations that explode throughout the year and that require a quick and immediate action. This Fund allows us to have the capacity to react without having to wait for additional funds to arrive, which in these borderline situations becomes a vital vital impact to save lives in the moment of maximum vulnerability. When an emergency breaks out in complex or large-scale environments, whether due to armed conflicts, natural disasters or epidemic outbreaks, it is the Emergency Unit that directly manages and coordinates our intervention. This Unit is made up of various professionals (health professionals, logists, economists) who manage our response so that we can quickly deploy to the epicenter of the emergency; This Unit also has a large team of people ready to travel and who are responsible for carrying out assistance activities in the field. We have located permanent emergency teams in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Niger and Mali, because in these countries the outbreak of emergencies is recurrent (vulnerability of the health system, seasonality of epidemic outbreaks or cystic conflict) and having teams ready in those contexts throughout the year allows us to respond quickly when alerts happen.

Target population: All people who are victims of these emergencies.

Location: Emergencies occur anywhere in the world, however, countries with less health response capacity are priorities when deploying a mission.
