We are part of an international network dedicated to advancing research, standards, and leadership to help societies, institutions, and governments prepare for the most profound demographic transformation of our time.
While Europe and other advanced economies experienced population ageing gradually over decades of economic growth and wealth accumulation, Latin America is ageing at an unprecedented pace—with fewer resources, lower productivity, and systems that remain insufficiently prepared to support longer lives.
This demographic transition will reshape work, healthcare, economic security, caregiving, cities, and public policy. If left unaddressed, it risks becoming one of the region’s greatest social and economic challenges. If managed effectively, however, it represents a historic opportunity to build more inclusive, productive, and resilient societies.
The Shift Foundation works to accelerate this transition through research, evidence generation, open standards, leadership development, and cross-sector collaboration.
Demographic change is no longer a future challenge—it is already here. And the window to prepare is limited.
