Crisis follows the eruption of Puyehue Volcano

On the 5th June 2011, the Puyehue Volcano erupted, after lying dormant for half a century. The volcano is located in the Andes mountain range.

After 15 days of activity, volcanic ash now covers vast regions of Argentine Patagonia This are the devastating results:

• Provincial and national authorities have declared an economic and social emergency in the region.
• Around 750,000 sheep in the central and northeastern zones of Chubut are expected to be lost.
• The disaster will impact around 1000 local familes.

To help get resources to those affected by the situation, HelpArgentina has created the Puyehue Volcano Fund. Money donated to the this  fund will be used to support HelpArgentina Member Organizations working in the affected region.
