External Medical Center for Children's Hospital

In 2007, Flexer Foundation built external medical centers for the Infectology Department of the Ricardo Gutiérrez Children's Hospital.

A high percentage of the patients that the foundation helps receive care in the Ricardo Gutiérrez Children's Hospital. Currently the Infectology Department is facing a growing demand for consultations about different infectious pathologies, including children with cancer and infections, new AIDS cases, etc. This growing demand is a result of the socioeconomic situation in the country and logistical changes in the ambulatory care of patients with these medical problems.

The construction of these external medical centers will permit the development of an independent but dynamically connected sector of infectology with walk-in consultations, including three independent modules:

• A module for children with infections and onco-hematological illnesses

Each model will include an individual and exclusive waiting room, bathrooms and consulting rooms that will be used solely to treat the related pathologies. They will include a room with information for parents and an intake area. The only common space will be the access from the street and the Secretary for the reception of patients and the direction of said patients to the relevant module.

The implementation of this project will result in a higher quality of life for patients with cancer, AIDS, and other medical problems, as well as create a greater availability of hospital beds for at-risk children.
