6th National Reading Marathon
This year the Marathon will be held on October 3rd, 2008, and its theme will be Reading is an Adventure with No Frontiers. Let’s discover new worlds!
Through the National Reading Marathon, Fundación Leer seeks to reach a wider national audience to highlight the importance of reading in a festive environment.
The day of the Marathon, children throughout Argentina, together with its teachers, families, volunteers and other members of the community, will meet in a set institution to read, listen to stories, poetry, share reading and books, participate in plays, etc.
Amongst the participating institutions, Fundación Leer will organize the draw of Reading Corners, each with 200 NEW BOOKS. PLEASE DONATE NOW and HELP US increase the number of Reading Corners that will be set up and HELP THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN in disadvantaged areas.
In 2007, 2,500,000 children of 7,800 institutions participated in the Marathon!
Fundación Leer was founded in March 1997 to encourage, from the private sector, the reading habit, fundamental aspect in the education of children and main factor for their active social inclusion.The aim of Fundación Leer is to promote reading and literacy amongst children in Argentina, generating a long-lasting and positive impact in their personal development to facilitate their social inclusion.
Fundación Leer operates at a national level, retaining a local view. Its programs are implemented at schools, public and private, rural schools, libraries, hospitals, community centers, soup kitchens, centers for children with disabilities and youth centers.
