Description: ACIJ's Project "Community Legal Aid Clinic" (CALC) is based in Moreno which is a community of about 500,000 on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. More than half of the population lives below the poverty line and a third of the population falls under the line of indigence, thus making it one of poorest suburbs in Buenos Aires. CALC serves as social center that defends the legal rights of Moreno residents and was created in order to help educate and provide legal counsel to the residents of the Moreno community with the goal of strengthening the capabilities of the residents to better utilize the public services available to them. CALC also strives to effect long-term structural improvements in the residents' abilities to demand fair legal treatment from government institutions.
