Events FAQ

What is a Social Ambassador?

Active and innovative individuals who help spread the ideals and goals of HelpArgentina and its member organizations by leading solidarity initiatives, looking for investors, and presenting the HelpArgentina model as an effective way to support the development of the Argentine community. Through their activism and commitment, their hard-working spirit spreads to the rest of the Community without Borders.

What does it mean to be the host or organizer of a HelpArgentina event?

Anyone can be a Social Ambassador! As the organizer of a HelpArgentina event, you host in your house (or in a restaurant, club, etc.) friends, relatives and neighbors for an event such as a dinner or any other activity to benefit an Argentine social cause. The host's contribution is the diffusion of their social cause, hospitality, and the cost of organizing the event (to this end, many Social Ambassadors work as a team to put events on together).

How do I register to become the host of a HelpArgentina event?

We need you to fill out our online form with your name, contact information, location and date of the event and the selected beneficiary organization, or you can write to Florencia Iacopetti with all the information! Also, you can register your event on the Events Calendar page.

How do I invite people?

The same way that you would in any other situation, through telephone or e-mail, explaining your initiative and including a link to the web site of HelpArgentina and the Member Organization or Social Fund that you would like to support. You can also use www.evite.com, which sends invitations automatically and tracks the RSVPs of invitees.

What is the relation between HelpArgentina and its member organizations?

HelpArgentina studies and researches every potential Member Organization using international criteria of transparency, efficiency, and professionalism. The organizations that meet these standards are invited to join our network with a profile on our web site.

These organizations have access to our established channels of international donations and to all of our financial services. By delegating these tasks to HelpArgentina, the organizations can both minimize administrative costs and maximize the money they have collected by directly applying it in the pursuit of the organization's missions and goals.

The objective of our unique model is to reward organizations that work transparently and efficiently with confidence and donations and, at the same time, continuously improve the ease with which our Community without Borders can actively participate.

Can I choose to support a specific organization?

Of course! You have various options with regards to beneficiary organizations. You can

- Or let your guests choose at the event!

For more information about our organizations or potential beneficiary causes, write to: organizaciones@helpargentina.org

How much should a guest donate?

There is no suggested contribution! You know better than anyone about your guests and you know how much each of them could contribute and how much they can be asked for. As a possibility, you can select a target sum of donations. Simply multiply the number of invitees by the average contribution that you think you can establish. Include this average contribution in the invitation so that the guests have an idea of the donation that you are looking for.

Average contribution x Number of guests = Target sum of donations

Example: $20 x 15 people = $300 // $100 x 8 people = $800

Except in exceptional cases, we prefer not to receive in-kind donations, as they are expensive to transport both in terms of time and money.

How do I ask for this donation?

As we mentioned above, write in the invitation a suggested contribution/donation. Yes, it is just that easy!

Your event is an opportunity to take a leadership role as a host. Therefore, be prepared to answer questions about the beneficiary organization you have selected. The guests are going to be your friends, so you can talk about your personal decision to select the beneficiary organization. Nothing is more motivating than hearing from one who has already been motivated.

There are two forms of collecting donations:

  • Before the event: The guests can donate online from anywhere in the world with a credit card through our secure cybersource platform at www.helpargentina.org or they can donate offline with the donation form in our "How to" section, using a credit card, check, cash, or wire transfer.

  • During the event: So that the host does not have to deal with the donated funds, the guests can donate online during the event from a computer at the event. If, for whatever reason, the guest cannot donate online during the event or would prefer to donate through another method, they should bring the donation form completed in an envelope. In this case, instead of the guest sending the envelope to our New York or Buenos Aires offices to be processed, they will give it to the hosts of the night so that they can then send it to us. Remember to place a container close to the door so that absent-minded guests that forgot to make a donation before the event can do so during the event.

As a host, your contribution is the food and the organization of the event. If the organizational costs are very high, think about finding a co-organizer.

Can I have virtual guests?

You can invite anyone who is anywhere in the world to any event, and consequently, donating to the cause you have selected. The virtual guest can log on to the HelpArgentina online donation platform and donate to your event easily, quickly, and securely, like any other donation.

The concept of "virtual guest" can also be applied to people who cannot attend an event targeted to collect funds for the organization, no matter where they are. "I can't come today..." is no longer an excuse!

Where should I send the donations raised at my event?

The funds that you collect from the event can be donated online with a credit card through our secure cybersource platform at www.helpargentina.org

If you would like to make a deposit or bank transfer, send an e-mail to donor@helpargentina.org and we will send you the necessary information to do so.

Here are the offline alternatives:

Funds that have been collected in the United States or in any other location outside of Argentina should be sent to:

HelpArgentina 712 5th Ave Fl 8 New York, NY 10019, United States

Funds collected in Argentina should be sent to:

HelpArgentina Maipú 62 Piso 2º Oficina 9 (C1084ABB) Buenos Aires Argentina

In all of the above cases, the most important thing is that the host collects the names and contact information of all the guests (at least an e-mail address) so that HelpArgentina and its member organizations can personally thank them for their participation in the HelpArgentina Nights, send them a receipt for their donation and keep them informed as to how the funds are being used.

How do my guests receive tax-receipts?

We will send them tax-recepits for all of their donations (online or offline). For this, all donors need to do is give correct contact information in the registration of the event.

Can I use donations to pay for part or all of the costs of organizing my event?

No. Although this is a very common practice in benefit dinners or galas, it is very important that 100% of the donations collected from these events from guests across the world end up in the hands of the beneficiary organizations. If you would like to hold a big event but do not have the money to do so, we recommend that you find a second person to co-host with you. They can even be a secret partner!

Are my guest's donations tax-decutible?

All contributions from American donors are tax-deductible. HelpArgentina is a 501(c)(3) organization registered with the IRS, approved to receive charity donations. Unfortunately, donors in other countries do not have this benefit. If this topic is as important to you and them as it is to us, we invite everyone to help us and other activists to work towards the creation of better financial initiatives to donate in Argentina.
