The mission of CONIN is to stop with infant malnutrition in Argentina, starting with the province of Mendoza, and then to expand through Latin America. Our objective is based on the fact that malnutrition causes weakness of mind: the only one that can be prevented, the only one that can be cured and the only one caused by men. We not only can, but we must work to stop it. Malnutrition results from underdevelopment and is caused not only by a bad nutrition, but also by many other factors such as violence, unemployment, poverty, lack of education and affection, lack of access to health care services, among others.
An adequate nutrition and stimulation is necessary, from the moment of conception of the child, for the brain to grow and develop in an appropriate way. Its weight at the moment of birth is 35 g and reaches 900 g at the age of 14 months. In this stage is when the neuronal wiring takes place. When there is a good feeding and stimulation each neuron produces 15,000 wires which will connect with the other ones, allowing men to develop abilities such as memory, power of mind, the capacity of associating things, etc.
If we want to eliminate this disease from our society, we must deal in an integral way with all the problems that cause underdevelopment.
The activity of CONIN is sustained on three pillars: 1. Assistance through various programs that support the exercise of fundraising that will be destined to fulfil the needs of each beneficiary. 2. Education oriented particularly to human promotion and to the prevention of malnutrition. 3. Scientific research about the issue of poverty and malnutrition.

1. CONIN Network ArgentinaTwenty two Prevention Centers have been established throughout Argentina (Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Chaco, Misiones, Tucumán, Entre Ríos, Corrientes, Santa Fe and Mendoza), two in Paraguay and one in Peru. We are also in the process of opening new Centers in Mar del Plata, Gualeguaychú, Concordia, Paraná, Venado Tuerto and Cinco Saltos. What is more, Nutrition Without Borders, an NGO from Barcelona which is currently working in Gambia, Equatorial Africa, has adopted the model of CONIN in order to fight poverty and malnutrition. As we have proved our model to be efficient and successful, some organizations have joined our network and adopted the preventive method of CONIN. The damage produced by infant malnutrition is strongly resented by the society because its possibilities of growth are diminished by the existence of this disease.2. “Value Your Health” Project The main objective of the training courses delivered by the project “Value your health”, sponsored by the Galicia Bank and CONIN Foundation, is to contribute to the prevention of infant malnutrition. The goal is to be achieved by valuing the social bonds of the community, promoting a healthy way of life and customs. These courses are given to local social leaders, as the target is to create, at least, a minimum degree of awareness of the social problems, so they can apply what they have learned among the families in need of their community. Since its implementation in July 2007 to December 2009, 41 training courses have been delivered, and 1263 social leaders have been trained.
