If anybody had told me three years ago that I will spend a year in Argentina, teaching English to villa-kids in the suburbia of Buenos Aires, I would have laughed. But what do you know, I gave up everything to travel here and see a whole new perspective to Argentinean life.
In the centre of Buenos Aires you see all those beautiful buildings and people shopping with fancy bags in Recoleta or Palermo, in Mataderos you see children (or even grown-ups) who cannot read and/or write properly and who live in houses that have been built from whatever people found.
Volunteering there makes me understand and appreciate more my own life. I have a good education; they sometimes cannot even understand the question "What is your name" despite the fact that they've been learning English at school for three years. I have travelled around a little, some of them have never even left Buenos Aires.
I hope to make at least a small difference in their lives. I hope that seeing all those international volunteers at the organization they would become more interested in their own education and maybe one day they will be able to move away from the villa and live a better life in order to build a better society.
