Quitilipi Children´s Library

This project aims at creating a children`s library in Quitilipi, Chaco province, and supplying it with 300 new children´s books, completely new in this rural area. An important aspect of the project is the training of local teachers in order to develop techniques that are aimed at an early stimulation of the literacy process. Promotion of reading and the teaching of basic literacy to children and families will assure the sustainability of the program.

We want to support the teachers of school 608 in Quitilipi, that with limited resources have made a great effort in educating and developing the literacy skills and abilities of the children.

35 children go to school 608, their parents, if employed at all, perform temporal and poorly paid jobs. The children travel between 2 and 7 km to assist classes (two or three travel by bike, some by horse, but most walk to school). The children have hardly ever seen any books, nor at school nor at their homes. Consequently illiteracy figures in this area are very high.
