ASOCIACIÓN AMIGOS DEL MUSEO DE ARTE MODERNO DE BUENOS AIRES

The Friends of the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires Association is a non-profit civil association that strives to contribute economically with the growth and strengthening of the institution, furthering its reach, its productions, investigations, and the development of the social and cultural impact programs that the museum carries out.

The Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, public institution dependant of the Ministerio de Cultura del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, was created in april of 1956 by initiative of Rafael Squirru, its first director. From the beginning, the Moderno was a vanguard-led museum, the true house of argentine artists and a space dedicated to promote the latest productions from all artistic disciplines.

Their programs have multiple objectives. Among them, to ensure the public access to its cultural heritage - the most important collection of modern and contemporary argentine art in the country, with 7000 artworks and design pieces-; the dissemination of argentine art and the emphasis on education through art as a motor for imagination, providing tools to promote creativity and innovation in our society.

MISSION: We work alongside each other bringing art to all kinds of public. The sustained support of each one of our members and donors gives us the possibility to achieve every goal we set. We unfold a selection of actions concerning fundraising and dissemination, providing the museum with the necessary resources for the pursuit of their objectives.
We reinforce our mission and continue working together to create an accessibility-focused public museum, with a unique offer.

  • Support for the Moderno's Exhibition Programme

Support for the Moderno's Exhibition Programme

Every year, the Museo Moderno presents some ten exhibitions focused mainly on Argentinian artists, historical and contemporary, through whose works we can discover our rich history and address today’s human questions in stunning presentations inviting enjoyment, discovery and reflection. The programme encourages creativity and experimentation from both Argentinian artists invited to create new works and projects with the Museum’s support and from foreign artists invited to come and engage in conversation with Argentina’s thriving art scene.

Support for Casa Alberto Heredia: Art and Research Residencies

The Casa Alberto Heredia programme exists to offer artists from Argentina and overseas, as well as trainee or specialist art professionals, the time and space for research, production and exchange. Its inauguration marks the opening of a brand-new line of work and programming for our Museo Moderno, promoting residencies that engage in a wide-ranging dialogue with the Museum’s programme of exhibitions and public activities, its collection and its team of professionals. The Casa Alberto Heredia – a building bequeathed to the Museo Moderno by the artist, along with 517 works – can house two professionals at a time. It has two bedrooms with private bathrooms, a spacious social area, a kitchen/dining room and a studio. Just 800 metres from the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, it allows easy access and fluid links with our institution.

The Education Department forms a bridge between the Moderno and society. Its mission is to create new opportunities to think about art and education, and to reach out to our culturally and socially diverse community. We develop and implement educational and cultural programmes aimed at all museum-goers to the Moderno. Through its innovative and creative programmes, workshops, educational tours, lectures and debates, our team invites the public to expand their imagination, exercise their critical faculties and value their sensory experience.

    Support for the Moderno's Publications

Over the last ten years, the Museo Moderno has published more than fifty (50) bilingual books on Argentinian modern and contemporary art, most of which can be perused on the Museum’s website. Our books are designed to closely reflect the exhibitions and artists participating in the Moderno’s programmes. They seek to strike a balance between text and image, and to encourage and facilitate access to knowledge and to literary and critical contents around the works.

    Support for the Moderno Collection

One of the Museo de Arte Moderno’s main objectives is to collect, conserve, research and disseminate the art collection for which it is responsible. The Museum’s collection includes more than 7,600 works of twentieth- and twenty- first-century Argentinian and international modern and contemporary art. It holds outstanding works from the 1950s – the decade of its foundation – to the present day in line with its mission to always remain at the forefront of art. The Museo Moderno Collection is today the strongest, most permanent link between the institution, the artists and the public. Its conservation allows access to the works, their visibility, research, exhibition and loans.
