HelpArgentina introduces a new Nonprofit Transparency Report
Which will give individual and institutional donors a convenient tool that provides consistent, objective and comparable information about nonprofit organizations.
HelpArgentina announced a significant advance for nonprofit accountability in Argentina today with the introduction of the new Nonprofit Transparency Report, a tool that will increase accountability and donor confidence in the argentine social sector.
The Nonprofit Transparency Report, which to date has been completed by 52 of the organizations that are members of the HelpArgentina network, evolved out of the annual accountability reporting process that HelpArgentina requires from its member nonprofits and is designed to give individual and institutional donors a convenient tool that provides consistent, objective and comparable information about these nonprofits. By presenting detailed institutional, governance, financial and program information for publication in their Transparency Report, these nonprofit organizations have demonstrated a commitment to accountability which will serve not only to increase confidence in these organizations, but also in the argentine social sector as a whole.
Bob Hannan, the Executive Director of HelpArgentina, said “The investment of time and effort made by each of the nonprofits in assembling and publishing this information represents a significant advance for the concepts of transparency and accountability in Argentina”. He added that HelpArgentina “will use the experience that we have developed through this inaugural process to collaborate with transparency initiatives in other countries in Latin America such as NGO Alliance and Rendir Cuentas.”
The transparency reports, available on HelpArgentina’s website (click here), were designed based on international transparency standards and tailored to incorporate some specific characteristics of the argentine nonprofit sector. HelpArgentina’s member organizations will be required to complete the transparency report annually, although the inclusion of some program metrics is left to the discretion of each organization. HelpArgentina reviews the information provided by each organization to confirm its consistency but makes no representation as to its accuracy.
In a related development, the Argentine Network for International Cooperation (RACI by its initials in Spanish, www.raci.org.ar ) has announced that it will require that new organizations joining its network complete the HelpArgentina Nonprofit Transparency Report, further expanding the commitment to transparency in the argentine nonprofit sector.
