Fundación Huerta Niño

Fundación Huerta Niño

Our vegetable gardens are designed and constructed by the school community under the management of a government (INTA) technician. Currently Huerta Niño covers 50 schools all over the country and reaches 4000 children. It generates a sustainable and transferable solution to a common and usual problem in our country

We work in solidarity with rural schools where there are cases of under-nurished and/or poorly-nurished children, building communal vegetable gardens in order to provide a viable long-term solution.

A) To build a vegetable community garden together with other productive initiatives that enable schools to feed students during their primary school period, using the technology and tools available in their own homes.

B) To develop a “rural educational model” that will allow children to make the most of their environment.

C) To strengthen rural schools as the center of all community activities, bringing management capabilities and promoting cooperative work between members of the educational community.
