Training of Indigenous Communities in the Exercise of their Environmental Rights

Training of Indigenous Communities in the Exercise of their Environmental Rights

Main Objective: Train indigenous leaders of Northern Argentina in topics related to public participation, access to information and environmental impact analysis in order to provide them with specific tools for the protection of their environmental rights.

Location: Jujuy, Argentina

Description: Before the multitude of mining projects, tourism ventures and infrastructure developments which are springing up in northwestern Argentina, local communities confront many obstacles which prevent them from effectively exercising their environmental rights.

Our project responds to the needs of these communities, in terms of specific training on legal norms and administrative procedures for the protection of their rights. It includes joint project development between FARN and the largest indigenous collective of the region, as well as a series of trips and workshops for about 500 local leaders.
FARN has already created materials, carried out two workshops and trained more than 200 people. However, there is great demand on the part of the different indigenous organizations to reach more people and increase the impact of activities over the 2009 year, the reason for which FARN is requesting funds to support this initiative.

Budget: U$S 15.000
